Compatibility and Fonts

Macintosh & Windows

We support files from the following applications for both Macintosh and Windows. Please call to verify support of your application, if more than three years old.

Adobe PageMaker - through version 7
(Upgrading to InDesign is recommended as support for PageMaker may end soon)
Adobe Illustrator - version 9 through CS5
Adobe Photoshop - version 6 through CS5
Adobe InDesign - version 2.x through CS5
Adobe Acrobat - versions 5 through 9
QuarkXpress* - all versions through 7 (*Single Language Only)
Macromedia Freehand - (cover files only) through version 10 and MX on Mac only (Freehand users should consider upgrading to Illustrator CS5)
CorelDraw - (cover files only) through version 12 for PC only.

* International Language versions of QuarkXpress are not compatible with Single-Language versions. However, we will accept PDFs created out of International Language Versions.

For Software Not Listed Above

If the software you are using to create your pages is not listed above, you will need to supply the files as POSTSCRIPT or PDFs; particularly, non-supported applications WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, and Claris Works. We can only accept files from these applications submitted as postscript or PDFs.

If you have not produced postscript or PDF files for us before please contact us for specific instructions regarding the use of the proper printer driver and the Acrobat Distiller job options settings.

Tests

We are happy to run a test file from your application, postscript or PDF files to determine compatibility at no charge. Please supply test files that accurately represent the complexity of any applications to be used in the final job.

Fonts

Font problems are unquestionably responsible for more job delays and frustrations than any other area of digital file production. However, they can easily be avoided once you know what to look for and how to properly organize them.
